Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Spain
Minhaj-ul-Quran Intl. Spain is the Spanish branch of the Minhaj-ul-Quran International organisation based in Barcelona. MQI established its centre in Spain early in 1996.
Whenever Spain is mentioned, no historian will be able to chronicle history by neglecting its cultural and civilizational background. According to an estimate, more than six thousand Pakistanis live in Spain. Three Islamic centres of Minhaj-ul-Quran International have been set up in this country. The Organization of Minhaj-ul-Quran International was founded in Barcelona and foundation stone of Islamic centre was laid in 2001, which was inaugurated in 2002. This Islamic centre houses a huge mosque of MQI in which 400 worshippers can offer their prayers at one time, whereas for larger religious gatherings, programmes are arranged in the ground. There are two Islamic centres in Barcelona.
Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri visited Spain in July 1996 and visited the historical places of Spain like Cordova mosque etc. During his annual tour of Europe in 2000, Shaykh-ul-Islam also visited Spain and participated in organizational activities. Hafiz Nazir Ahmad Khan and Allama Safdir Majid and others have already visited Spain, which has served to accelerate the work of the mission.
