News.bbc.co.uk : Muslim scholar issues fatwa denouncing terrorism
Thursday, 4 March 2010
A Muslim scholar has taken a stand against what he calls "Islamic terrorists" and issued a fatwa denouncing suicide bombings.
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri describes his ruling as an absolute condemnation of terrorism, without any excuse or justification.
He says the fatwa condemns "every act of terrorism, in every form and manifestation which has been committed wrongly in the name of Islam."
Tariq Ramadan is professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at Oxford University. Nik Gowing asked him if the ruling really does dismantle al-Qaeda's ideology.
