March 15, 2010 Monday
LONDON, March 15 -- The UK's first community debate on theFatwa against terrorism was held at the East London locality ofWalthamstow, a pre-dominant Muslim neighbourhood. The event held Sunday at Walthamstow Town Hall provided a uniqueopportunity to the local community with the chance to discuss therecently launched Fatwa condemning terrorism and suicide bombers, withfaith leaders and Shaykh Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, the son of leadingIslamic scholar, Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, who launched the Fatwahere on March 2nd. Shaykh Hassan explained the religious and theological argumentsbehind the Fatwa to local community members, as well providing themwith an opportunity to find out how the Fatwa will have a directimpact on local communities across the UK.
The Fatwa shows how suicide bombings and terrorism totallycontradicts Islam and comes at a critical time in the wake of recentmassacres of innocent citizens in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He said the Fatwa is the most comprehensive analysis of the issueof terrorism that has been published in the UK, and provides robustreligious evidence, based on Quranic verses and Prophetic traditions,to clarify the Islamic viewpoint on the atrocities committed byterrorists. Quoting Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri, founder of Minhaj-ul-Quran, he said:"Terrorists and extremist organisations are brainwashing ourvulnerable youth, excusing their evil atrocities through misguidedpolitics and mistaken ideology. They indiscriminately kill innocentpeople ' both Muslims and non-Muslims - and cause destruction withfoul intention, causing harm not just to Islam, but to humanity". "It is important that all Muslims stand up to the actions ofthis minority and I hope they will now feel confident to make theirvoices heard and openly condemn them in the strongest possible terms, unequivocally and with one voice, now is the time to unite at everylevel."
